The version of Java that works best with Blackboard Vista is Java 6 Update 3. Please follow the directions below to delete all versions of Java and install 6 Update 3:
- Delete wrong version of Java:
- Close all browser windows.
- Choose Start then Control Panel.
- Click Add or Remove Programs.
- Search for Java in the list (it’s alphabetical).
- Click Remove and follow the instructions.
NOTE: If you have Java 6 Update 3, DO NOT delete it. Delete all other Java versions and continue to Step 3.
- Install Java 6, Update 3:
- Open your browser and go to http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se/6u3/index.html
The Sun Downloads Archive screen is displayed. - Click the Download JRE link.
- If the Security Information dialog box is displayed, click Yes.
- In the Platform drop-down list, select Windows.
- Keep the Language drop-down option set to Multi-language.
- Check the "I agree to the Software License Agreement" check box.
- Click Continue.
- If the Security Information dialog box is displayed, click Yes.
- In the "Optional Files" area, click the jre-6u3-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe link.
- In the File Download - Security Warning dialog box, click Run.
- In the Internet Explorer - Security Warning dialog box, click Run.
- Java will download.
- In the Java Setup - Welcome screen, click Accept.
- Uncheck Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer and click Next.
- Java will install.
- Click Finish.
- Close the Download Java SE Runtime Environment 6 update 3 for Windows, Multi-language window.
- Once downloaded, turn off Java automatic updates:
- Choose Start then Control Panel.
- Click Java.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Click the + next to "JRE Auto-Download" to expand the category.
- Select Never Auto-Download.
- Click Apply.
- Click OK.
