According to the new Pearson Social Media Survey 2010 cited in Campus Technology's online edition, about 80 percent of faculty members use social media. Nearly one third use the tools to connect with students.

No surprise that Facebook, YouTube, Skype, LinkedIn and Twitter are the five most used tools.

However, faculty indicated use of other social media in the classroom:

  • Podcasts or streaming media
  • Reading blogs and wikis
  • Creating podcasts and streaming media
  • Commenting on blogs and wikis
  • Publishing blogs and wikis

Where do you fit in? Which social media do you use personally or in your courses?
