Welcome Letter—Moodle

Welcome Letter Samples

Course welcome letters are a great way to set the tone of your course. Below are two sample letters that can be used in your Moodle course to welcome students.  The first sample letter (short letter) provides just a general information including how to access Moodle, logging in information, and technical support information.  The second sample letter (long letter) is a detailed letter more invitational in style.  This letter not only contains general information but also provides students with more detailed instruction.

Feel free to use and/or modify either sample letter for your course.

 Long Welcome Letter

Welcome to [Insert Course ID/Course Name]!

Hello everyone. My name is [Name] and I am going to be your instructor for [Course ID] for the upcoming [Semester] semester. I just wanted to introduce myself and give you some important information about this class.

Our [Insert Course ID/Course Name] course will be using the Moodle system to support our teaching and learning goals. Student access to the course in Moodle will be enabled starting [Insert Date] and disabled on [Insert Date]. You can access our online course using your NinerNet username/password at http://moodle.uncc.edu.

If you need technical assistance for any reason, you may submit an online request via HelpDesk Online at http://helpdesk.uncc.edu or contact the IT Service Desk at 704-687-5500.

Our [Course ID] course will be using Moodle to enhance our class activities. For example, I will post class materials such as [syllabus, readings, assignments, exam guides, tests, etc.] I will also make class announcements through the [forum name] forum. In fact, this message was emailed to you through the forum. Please be prepared to acquire important class materials and announcements through Moodle. In addition, you will be encouraged to make course inquiries and discussions through the [forum name] forum. This will allow you to interact with your classmates more and hopefully learn better in the process. You will also be asked to do some assignment activities and take tests through Moodle.

Here is your first assignment: Before our first class on [Date], please access the course (at http://moodle.uncc.edu using your NinerNet username/password) and introduce yourself in the [forum] forum. This is a required assignment, and I will give [No. of Points] points for completing it. No late submission will be given credit.

The content of our Moodle course will expand as I keep adding materials and you participate in forums or assignment activities throughout the semester. Please be aware that your access to the course will be disabled after the semester ends in [Month.]

That’s it for now. I look forward to seeing you in the first class on [Date.]

Thanks,
